We are in the throes of sleep training over here. Trying to be ready for a night away in April! (Insert all the praise hands here!) I have done my best to balance logic over gut feelings. I've followed all of the techniques as best as I could while still trying to get sleep for myself. I often think that life would be so much easier if I never needed sleep. Think of everything I could accomplish in the middle of the night while everyone was snoozing? No one would be creating messes, using dishes or changing clothes in their sleep. I might actually get caught up! But, I digress.
Here are some thoughts I've run through in the middle of the night, and have even tried to lull Miss Sophia to sleep while saying them out loud...
As a baby...
"Baby, you are fed, you are changed, you are burped. You need to fall asleep."
"You are bathed. I have rocked you. You are warm and snuggled. Now, it's time to go to sleep."
"Come here, let's snuggle. I can't stand up straight anymore. Just lay with me for a moment....."
"Did I just fall asleep??"
And more recently...
"You have been read books. We have played. Just please fall asleep."
"I'm not crying, YOU'RE crying. We're both crying. We're both so tired. You need some sleep."
"Your siblings are sleeping, and you won't stop babbling. We all need some rest. Please, sweet babe, go to sleep."
"Ok. I love you. I'm going to sleep. I hope you do too. Nigh night, baby girl."
We have come to the realization that she eventually gives in to sleep. And she isn't overly mad at me when I come to get her after a sufficient nap or night. If she is fed, changed and has her pacis, I am free to let her be. See, we all need to figure out how to sleep on our own eventually. For the sake of my sanity, and this family, we are figuring it out now so that mama can FINALLY get.some.sleep! Hallelujah!
